One Team, One Body: Coach Joshua Introduces Yoga Philosophy

NASSAU COUNTY, FL., February 1, 2021 — Last Sunday, Coach Joshua introduced his “ One Team, One Body” philosophy by bringing consciousness and mindfulness to the team through yoga. The Nassau Pride participated in a 2 hour session that focused on improving not only flexibility but also posture, body mechanics, injury prevention, awareness and the importance of meditation through movement.

“Of course, if you haven’t researched a few yoga videos or articles, you may be skeptical about the benefits” Coach Joshua expressed to the team. He explained “the point is not that yoga can replace conventional (or unconventional) training, but rather how it can enhance it.”

The team practiced deep breathing in unison, getting them to sync all of their breaths as one. “One Team, One Body!"

In the ABA, mindfulness and the ability to control emotion is important because the game is chaotically fast and the pressures on players are extreme. “Basketball is fast-paced, with lots of jumps, twists, turns, coordination, and sprints that take a huge toll on the joints and tendons. Keeping them flexible and strong prevents injuries and aids recovery” said Shawn Blackshear, the team’s Yoga Instructor and Instructor at Power Yoga.

“This was a great session to help the guys relieve some of their soreness and pains and Ms. Blackshear was amazing. She used a hands on approach to ensure every posture and movement were correct. We are already looking forward to our next session” said Coach Joshua.

The Pride faces off against the Jacksonville Giants this Saturday, February 6th at home. The Game will be live streamed on Facebook at 6pm.
